Listen to the Story
Mr. Jenson stood at the front of the room, holding his Bible with a gentle smile.
"Mighty Warriors, today we're going to talk about love."
Dakota grinned. "Easy. Love is being nice!"
Ari nodded. "Helping people."
Kylie raised her hand slightly. "Caring about people… even when it's hard."
Max added, "And remembering what the Bible says."
Dylan crossed his arms thoughtfully. "Doing the right thing."
Mr. Jenson smiled. "Those are all good things. But let me ask you something. Where does love start?"
The room grew quiet.
Ayden leaned forward. "With us?"
Mr. Jenson shook his head gently. "Let's take a closer look."
He opened his Bible and read clearly.
"We love because God loved us first." — 1 John 4:19
Ayden frowned slightly. "So… we love God because He loved us first?"
"That's part of it," Mr. Jenson said. "But listen carefully. This verse doesn't just tell us who to love. It tells us where love begins."
Dakota tilted her head. "What do you mean?"
Mr. Jenson walked over to the whiteboard.
"That means we try to be kind… try to do good… try to love."
The class nodded. Dylan said, "That's what it feels like sometimes."
Mr. Jenson erased the board. "Now let's look at what God says."
Ari looked at the board. "So love doesn't start with us trying?"
"No," Mr. Jenson said gently. "It starts with God loving you first."
Ayden looked down at his hands. "Even before we do anything right?"
"Yes."
Ayden thought for a moment. He remembered a time he got in trouble and felt like he had disappointed everyone.
"Even then?" he asked quietly.
"Even then," Mr. Jenson said. "Even when we mess up. He loved you first. That's why Jesus came for you."
Something about that felt different.
"Mighty Warriors, God didn't wait for you to be perfect before He loved you. He didn't wait for you to get everything right. He loved you first because you are His masterpiece, and He made you on purpose."
Max looked up. "So we don't have to earn His love?"
"No," Mr. Jenson said. "You receive it, just like you received salvation."
Ayden thought for a moment. "So… if we don't receive His love first… then we're trying to love without it?"
Mr. Jenson smiled. "Exactly."
Dakota looked around. "That's why it feels hard sometimes."
Dylan nodded. "Like we're trying really hard, but it still feels empty."
Mr. Jenson stepped closer.
"When you don't know you're loved, you try really hard to earn it. But when you know God loves you, you don't have to force it anymore."
Kylie smiled. "It just flows."
"Yes," Mr. Jenson said. "It flows."
Ayden felt something settle inside him.
"So God loved me before I ever tried to love Him?"
"Yes."
"And before I tried to love others?"
"Yes."
Ayden leaned back slightly. Something about this felt familiar, like it was true before he even understood it.
Ayden smiled. "Then I don't have to start with trying harder."
Mr. Jenson shook his head gently. "You start by receiving."
Kylie stood up and said, "So our Mighty Confession is…"
I am loved.
God loved me first.
I don't have to earn His love.
I receive His love.
His love fills me.
And His love flows through me.
The room felt peaceful and full.
Mr. Jenson closed his Bible and smiled. "That's a wonderful Mighty Confession! So you see, Mighty Warriors… love doesn't begin with you trying. It begins with God loving you first. When you receive His love… you can love Him. And you can love others."
Ayden leaned back in his chair, smiling. He didn't have to earn love. He already had more than enough of it.
And now… he could live from it.
Until next time, Mighty Warriors!

💬 Conversation Starter
Ask your child: "Have you ever felt like you had to earn someone's love?" Then gently remind them — God's love doesn't start with what we do. It starts with who He is.
📖 This Week's Truth
The big idea: love is not something we produce — it's something we receive first from God, and then it flows outward. Help your child receive, not just try.
🏠 Try This at Home
Each day this week, say together: "I am loved. God loved me first." Let it be simple, short, and repeated. Identity forms through repetition.
🙏 Family Prayer
Father, thank You that Your love came first. Help our family receive Your love and let it flow through us to each other and to the world. In Jesus' name, amen.
